Introduction
ProPHOTO WIKI was designed to build an encyclopedia of information surrounding photography and related topics. While forums often contain a wealth of information contributed by their users, that information is often scattered and difficult to find when needed. This often leads to common questions being asked over and over again, further adding to the clutter and causing contributors to waste valuable time rehashing the same points.
ProPHOTO WIKI was created to accompany the ProPHOTO HOME Forums to resolve these problems. Using ProPHOTO WIKI, users will be able to place common questions and valuable contributions into an organized and efficient library of information. This will allow viewers to find the information that they are looking for quickly and easily.
Additionally, the forums contain modifications that make it easy to make a quick link to ProPHOTO WIKI when posting messages. By simply enclosing an article name between [wiki] [/wiki] tags, the forum will automatically generate a link to the appropriate page. This ties the two systems together so that users can quickly and easily share the knowledge contained within them.
What is a Wiki?
A wiki is a type of online encyclopaedia that can be contributed to by the community that it is serving. It provides a structured environment for individuals to share their knowledge with one another. Using a simple markup language, users can quickly and easily create new articles on topics not covered or refine articles that are already present. This produces a dynamic store of information that can quickly respond to topics that evolve rapidly.
For more information on this topic, see the Wikipedia article on this topic. It covers the concept of wikis in much greater detail. This site uses the same software (MediaWiki) as Wikipedia, so many of the points made on that site are also true here.
