Introduction
A family of CMOS-based image sensors that can measure all three colours at each photosite. Each photosite is composed of three different layers measuring certain wavelengths of light. By processing this data, the camera can natively generate a full-colour image.
As most conventional image sensors can only measure one colour per photosite, the remaining two colours must be extrapolated from neighbouring pixels. Since Foveon imagers do not have to perform this process, they can generate sharper images at any given pixel count.
